While no one has been charged for the murder of “Pete” Ayuso, a prison inmate was this afternoon arraigned for a murder that happened five years ago. Twenty-nine year old Lorenzo Smith Junior is serving a ten year prison term for arson and was soon to be released when his past caught up with him. At around three o’clock, Smith who is serving time for the arson of the Biscayne Government School was read a single charge of murder for the October ninth, 2009 homicide of prison inmate, Alfonso Eck. Smith Junior appeared before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith and he was further remanded to the Belize Central Prison until February twenty-sixth, 2015. Just after the charge was read to him, Smith Junior, who was unrepresented in court, blurted that he is being “punked” by the police. The Chief Magistrate then asked him if he has a lawyer and Smith Junior said that he did not, but is planning on getting the services of one. The go ahead to charge the inmate was contained in a memorandum dated January thirteenth from the office of the D.P.P. Smith will turn thirty on June nineteenth, 2015.
