Sandra Thompson

A pregnant woman managed to trick the police while she was in their custody at the K.H.M.H.  Thirty year-old Sandra Thompson, a mother and resident of a Belama Phase Three address, escaped from the hospital while under police watch. This morning, Thompson was brought to court and an hour later, her common-law husband, Richard Smith was also escorted to court where they appeared before the Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith to answer to charges of drug trafficking. Thompson was additionally read a charge of Escaping from Lawful Custody. On Monday police allegedly found the couple in possession of seven ounces of cannabis and took them to the station. There, Thompson complained of pain and threw herself on the ground. The police quickly escorted her to hospital and she was placed under observation. But soon after, a security guard alerted the police that Thompson was detected on the hospital compound. When the police officer made checks, she was nowhere to be found. In court this morning, the couple pleaded not guilty to the charge of Drug Trafficking and Thompson additionally pleaded not guilty to Escaping from Lawful Custody. During her arraignment, Thompson became emotional saying she had children at home and the Chief Magistrate offered the couple bail in the sum of one thousand dollars. Smith was ordered to report to the police station three times a week and not to get into trouble while on bail.  The couple’s next court date is set for September first, 2014. But on the same date, Smith has another matter before the court for drug trafficking for an alleged seventeen kilos of marijuana. This afternoon, Thompson was able to meet bail but Smith could not.
