A twenty-year-old man has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until September twelfth after he was arraigned this morning for last Thursday’s attempted murder of Ozen Rhaburn. Rhaburn, a twenty-three-year-old resident of Hattieville, was targeted by a gunman at his home in the Farmer’s Site area of the village. He was reportedly confronted by an individual he knew; that person pulled out a gun and fired a barrage of bullets in his direction. Rhaburn was hit multiple times and remains hospitalized at the K.H.M.H. Within minutes, Tre Stevens was detained as the suspect and was charged over the weekend. Today, he appeared before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson for attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm. No plea was taken and Stevens was remanded. Police said today that they cannot confirm that the shooting of Rhaburn is linked to the murder of Carlton Wade, which occurred one week earlier, but they are looking at all angles. Here’s Commander Alejandro Cowo of the Crimes Investigation Branch in Belize City.

“Sir do you know if police were able to determine if there is any connection between Rhaburn’s shooting and the murder of Mister Wade, the shopkeeper?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“I know that he was detained for that investigation along with others.”
Andrea Polanco
“Is it believed to be some kind of retaliation for that particular murder; that he was attacked?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“Well that is something that we are still looking at as we know who are the two other suspects and police are looking for them at this moment.”

“Is it a fact that you all had taken Mister Ozen Rhaburn into custody on Tuesday night because you heard that persons out there wanted to do him harm?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“No, as I mentioned, he was there for questioning reference the murder of Mister Kite. He was also along with two other persons; not only him.”
