In the Orange Walk Supreme Court before Justice Herbert Lord, Edwin Castillo was convicted for the murder of his friend Javier Ack. The incident occurred back in mid-June 2012 in the village of Yo Creek. Both young men were friends but on that fatal day, following an argument while they socialized under a lime tree at the property of a family member, Castillo used a machete to inflict the deadly stab wounds on the left side of his chest and behind Ack’s left ear. Castillo was found guilty and sentenced to twenty-five years behind bars on Wednesday. When he has completed nineteen years in prison, he will be able to apply for parole due to amendments to legislation.
