Also in court, a twenty-one year old man, who is being accused of assaulting a fifteen-year-old female, was today before the court with injuries he claims he sustained while in lockdown in police custody. Jorge Perez, a resident of Western Avenue, Belize City appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer wearing a bandage over his right eye and blood stains on his shirt. He was charged for the Aggravated Assault of an Indecent Nature upon a teenage girl. Perez pleaded not guilty and was offered conditional bail of two thousand dollars, plus one surety of the same amount and that he is not to interfere with the victim or witnesses in the case. It is alleged that Perez touched the minor inappropriately on New Year’s Day. Perez is due back in court on February twenty-eighth.
