Late this afternoon, a teenager of Antelope Street Extension was arraigned in the Belize City Family Court for Wednesday’s broad daylight murder of Troy Cole. Cole was riding his bicycle on Gibnut Street, a stone’s throw away from where he lived, when he was accosted by a gunman. Late that night, Ryan Thompson was detained and by early this morning, he was charged for the homicide. He was remanded to the Wagner’s Youth Facility, but he will be turn over to the Belize Central Prison by Monday since he turns eighteen in the next few hours. Here’s what Assistant ComPol Chester Williams said on Thursday.

“In reference to the murder of Mister Cole, we have the person of interest in custody. He was apprehended last night and he should be arrested and charged by the end of the day today or early tomorrow morning. So we will be making an arrest in that particular incident.”

“That person, known to police? Does it prove that it was gang rivalry between that person and Mister Cole?”

“The person is a seventeen year old and the person is from the area of the Antelope Street Extension.”

“So there’s been conflict because I know yesterday a definitive motive could not have been determined? So now do you guys have the motive for that?”

“We do have a motive, but to tell you the motive will be going into the deceased past and I do not do that.”

“Sir, is the motive that Troy Cole…streets know long time Troy Cole kill Marky Medina. I wasn’t there so I don’t know, but people in the area often say that it is well known there. Is that the motive?”

“Not as far as I know of Mister Vasquez, but I am sure that being the good investigative journalist that you are that you will get that information.”
