Turning to the courts…four persons, a pair of fishermen, a businessman and his wife of Chetumal Street, were dragged to court on separate fisheries offenses on the eve of the opening of the conch season. They all pleaded not guilty to the charges, challenging the Fisheries Department to prove its case against them. Fishermen, thirty-eight year old Omar Verde of Corozal Town along with twenty-six year old Darry Flores of Sarteneja Village appeared before Magistrate Ladonna John this morning. The duo was jointly charged with Possession of Undersized Conch in respect of three hundred and fifty-three unprocessed conch after being busted by Fisheries Officer, Rodney Castillo on September thirtieth, 2015, east of Columbus Caye. Magistrate John offered them bail in the sum of three thousand dollars each which both men met by noon today.
Flores and Verde are due back in court on November thirtieth, 2015. The co-owner and proprietor of CBL Ceviche Fast Food Shop, Ingemar and Gina Perrera, were also arraigned separately of Possession of fifty-nine conch during the closed season; possession of thirty nine Undersized Lobsters, and Possession of four soft shell lobsters. The couple pleaded not guilty to all charges and met bail of three thousand dollars. They are due back in court November thirtieth, 2015.
